Name the missing task precisely
An earlier return not prepared, an unavailable copy, and uncertain filing evidence are different gaps. Identify the tax matter and period relevant to each. A business owner may have several responsibilities, so do not assume that completion of one account’s work confirms another. Keep notices available to explain the instruction connected to the gap.
Obtain information for the correct period
List the source likely to answer the missing-record question and explain its purpose. Keep preliminary estimates labelled. If several accounts share documents, retain a reference to the source and clarify where it would be used. Current official requirements matter before a draft packet can be treated as ready for preparation or an account response.
Agree who handles each responsibility
Ask which task comes first and how preparation, review, submission, and later correspondence would be handled. Service terms should identify covered periods and any further work requiring agreement. Preserve evidence of actual completed actions separately from plans. The checklist organizes questions for debt help; it does not certify that a business or owner is compliant or that an IRS request will be accepted.
